Nationally known Nancy L. Maruyama, R.N., NCBF and Pam Borchardt, NCBF were the featured speakers. As a team, Maruyama and Borchardt travel nationally presenting workshops on the reduction of SIDS and what to do once a SIDS death occurs. The ultimate goal of the training was to reduce the number of infants dying in childcare settings throughout the United States through education of frontline childcare providers as well as preparing childcare providers to handle the crisis of infant death.
Each participant who attended the workshop is expected to provide training directly or indirectly to a minimum of 150 front-line childcare providers in their home state within six months of the training. The train the trainer format allows for ongoing opportunity to train others in childcare settings as a means to impact the tragedy of SIDS occurring in such settings.
Overall, the training was excellent. Those who participated perceived the workshop to be highly educational and insightful. Much knowledge was shared both professionally and from personal experiences. It is the hope of the trainers and participants that the information conveyed at this motivational conference will be disseminated throughout all levels of childcare settings.
